Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): Citing the resolutions made by the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue (PCNPI) during its July 9 meeting, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has urged members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to resign and pave way for a solution.
On Tuesday, the NTC submitted a representation to the Nagaland Chief Minister, stating that non-resolution of the Naga political issue and its extensive negotiations have taken an immense toll on the economy, the social and political fabric, and the total wellbeing of the citizens of Nagaland.
It said that despite Government of India (GoI) spending 24 years of negotiations with the NSCN (IM) and 4 years with the WC, NNPGs, “we are yet to see the other end of the tunnel, and thus the negotiations have become unconvincing.” It has to be the endeavour of everyone to see that no stone is left unturned to ensure that the negotiations are brought to its logical conclusion, it added.
In this context, the NTC laid emphasis on point number 4 of the PCNPI’s July 9 resolution wherein the elected NLA members and the 2 MPs stated preparedness to “pave way as and when an inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution is arrived at,” and urged the legislators to translate the resolution into practical action without delay.
“If not now, when will a better opportunity come to the elected leaders to implement the resolution by sacrificing your seats for the expeditious solution to Naga political issue?” it said, while adding that such sacrifices would make immense impact on the process of negotiations.
Further, the NTC underscored that “big announcements” on the Naga Political issue and its solution have been made by the GoI as well as negotiating parties over the decade with no tangible results till date. It also said that dialogue between GoI and Naga Political Groups (NPGs) had culminated on October 31, 2019 with agreed points for settlement, and “all unresolved matters shall be pursued through democratic political process post-solution.”
“The longer the process of solution to Naga Political issue takes, the more complicated it becomes to find a solution to this vexed Naga political problems,” it said, while adding that the unfulfilled promises have created anxiety amongst the people, and the Nagas are impatient now to continue remaining in years of uncertainties.
