NU conducts Climate-Smart Agriculture Training

Medziphema, March 31 (MExN): Nagaland University has concluded a 10-day ICAR-sponsored short course on “Climate-Smart Agriculture: Tools and Techniques for Biotic and Abiotic Stress Management” at its School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema campus on March 27 last.

The programme, organized by the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding and supported by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, was held from March 18 to 27, focusing on addressing climate change challenges in agriculture.

Course Director H. P. Chaturvedi said the training facilitated in-depth deliberations on climate-smart agriculture, with scientists and academicians sharing strategies for managing biotic and abiotic stress.

Over 33 lectures were delivered through online and offline modes, along with field exposure visits, covering agronomy, plant breeding, plant pathology, soil science, soil conservation, and animal science.

Delivering the valedictory address, Pauline Alila described the course as essential and lauded the department for organizing a meaningful learning initiative. She emphasized the need for innovation and called for more such programmes with wider participation to strengthen climate-resilient agricultural practices.

K. K. Jha highlighted the importance of ensuring that climate-resilient technologies reach farmers, urging stakeholders to bridge the gap between research and field implementation.
The course brought together 25 participants and 27 resource persons.

Certificates were distributed to all participants, with five receiving excellence awards.

Participants termed the programme highly informative and practical, calling for more such initiatives in the future.
