DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 17 (MExN): Associations of teachers, non-teaching, research scholars and students under Nagaland University (NU), Kohima Campus, Meriema on Tuesday said it will stage a protest at the University campus on October 18 against the recent harassment meted to Pro-Vice Chancellor, Kohima Campus and the alleged inadequate response from the NU authorities.
This was informed in a joint notification issued by the Nagaland University Teaching Association (NUTA), Nagaland University Non-Teaching Staff Association (NUNTSA), Nagaland University Research Scholars Forum (NURSF) and Nagaland University Students Union (NUSU) of Kohima Campus, Meriema. It asked the fraternity of the NU, Kohima campus- teachers, non-teaching, research scholars and students-to compulsorily attend the protest.
The four bodies had written to the Vice Chancellor, NU, Lumami on October 16 informing on suspension of activities in the Kohima campus and the reason thereof.
It alleged that a group of people from Meriema village stopped the official vehicle of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Kohima Campus on the morning of October 16 while on his way to office and restrained him from passing though their land. He was also cautioned of dire consequences if he did not pay heed to their warnings. This compelled the Pro-Vice Chancellor to return back home, the letter stated.
The four bodies had then unanimously resolved to suspend all activities in the Kohima campus until the Pro-Vice Chancellor is able to enter the campus and discharge his official duties normally.
