NU observes International Mother Language Day

Lumami, February 22 (MExN): The Hindi Cell of Nagaland University (NU) in collaboration with Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lumami organised an International Mother Language Day programme on February 21. 

The programme was graced by Prof B Kilangla, Vice-Chancellor In-charge NU; Dr Maongsangba, CoE NU; Prof Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, Director, IQAC, NU; Shailendra Sharma, Principal, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Lumami; faculty members; administrative staff members; students and parents.

As per a press release from NU PRO, Prof Kilangla Jamir in her address,  emphasised the importance of mother tongue pointing out that all the tribes in Nagaland have their own distinctive languages. She also shared her personal experience related to mother language day programmes in the University.

Also speaking on the occasion, Prof Sinha pointed out that the development of mother tongue is happening continuously and emphasised its promotion while respecting all languages. 

Meanwhile, Dr Maongsangba, citing the importance of mother tongue, underscored the need from the development of local languages of Nagaland, it added. 

He also praised the efforts made by the organisers, particularly Ashish Kumar, Hindi Officer for organising the various competitions such as singing, painting, quiz, and slogan.

Prizes were presented to the winners of the various competitions, the release added.
