NU teachers allege of political nexus

ON THE sidelines of their demand for immediate stepping down of Vice Chancellor within a week, the Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) has put up another fresh charge of a ‘political nexus’ between certain state politicians and Prof. GD Sharma.

Without naming any politicians, NUTA Kohima campus President Rosemary Dzuvichu and CEC member Dr N Venuh said that there is a strong political nexus between the state politicians and the Vice Chancellor which is why the latter has managed to keep his chair till today in spite of their repeated demands for his removal.

The NUTA dragged in the state politicians into the imbroglio after Sharma managed to get hold of the chair of the vice chancellor and keep it to full tenure in spite of their efforts to stall him with hard proof and evidence pointing that he is not fit to hold the prestigious post ever since the day he was appointed as the head of the Nagaland University.

“Prof. GD Sharma is getting the support of different politicians”, Rosemary said, without particularizing any party and going into the nitty-gritty of nexus.

“What kind of education can we expect for our children, when our leaders are playing such a dirty game?” she asked.
But the duo did not mention whether the state politicians, who have a nexus with GD Sharma, are also accomplices in the financial mismanagement.

NUTA also accused the Nagaland government of being callous towards the higher education sector in the state. “When the MHRD is sponsoring cent percent, the state government should grasp the opportunity, however, they have not done that till today”, said Rosemary, referring to the proposed Engineering and Management Institute.

Allegations included not only financial mismanagement and political nexus, but also Sharma’s way of tackling the issue on tribal line, which has created schism amongst the staff of the Nagaland University while fighting corruption. It also alleged Sharma had made many false promises to the land owners which is the root causes of the numerous impasses that is dogging the University.

NUTA also alleged that GD Sharma is feeding a very negative story to Delhi about the Nagas, which is why the latter is undermining the Nagas.

NUTA buttressed its allegations with the assertion that they are not against the incumbent Vice Chancellor on personal vendetta nor for self interest, but they have factual documents to prove their charges right.

Surprisingly, the Accountant General has not audited the account of the Nagaland University since 2002 as the whole account is in mess, added Rosemary.
