Nunumi village points out misrepresentation in readjustments

Dimapur, March 23 (MExN): Warning of a “critical situation,” Nunumi village under Satakha appealed to the government for redress in regard to readjustment affected in the area.

According to a letter to the Chief Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto by Nunumi Village Council, when enquiries were made, it was found from official records that the village and Saptiqa town of Satakha Assembly Constituency have been readjusted with Atoizu constituency. The proposal contains a misrepresentation showing Shena village (Old and New) and Ustomi villages adjusted with Atoizu A/C. “We can only infer that the government has been misled by this erroneous representation” stated the letter from the villages’ local authorities. The village also took cognizance that the Delimitation commission, owing to opposition had kept its recommendations for major readjustment, in abeyance and instead directed the state government to make minor adjustments. The report of the commission also directs that the sub-divisions (HQs) which exist as constituencies should not be touched.

The letter explained that Nunumi is one of the founding villages of Satakha. Out of the 34 villages in the present Satakha sub-division and A/C, 29 of them migrated from Nunumi village. Therefore it would be most “arbitrary and at the same time ridiculous” to suggest that the founding village be adjusted with other constituencies, it stated adding that in Sumi custom such is “highly derogatory and impermissible.”  Also to get to Atoizu A/C from Nunumi and Saptiqa town “one would have to travel to Satakha town, then to Zunheboto town and then proceed to Atoizu.” This means the proposal was made not in public interest but “for motivated and collateral purposes” it explained.
