Dimapur, February 23 (MExN): The Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) has disclosed that the Vice Chancellor took to the “online delivery system” without the approval of the university’s Academic Council and the Executive Council of Nagaland University. The NUTA also alleged that the VC also violated norms including enlisting the services of the system operators without floating any tenders or approval of the University Purchase Committee.
The NUTA made these allegations against the VC concerning at the introduction of the “online delivery system of question papers” in a statement today. The NUTA has blamed the Vice Chancellor for the debacle and has said he must own full responsibility “for not only risking the careers of thousands of college students by failing to conduct any trials before implementing it ,but also for serious violation of the University norms.” NUTA president Rosemary Dzuvichu and Secretary General Dr.N.Venuh appended the statement.
The NUTA said, “This new policy decision, though decided by the Vice Chancellor and principals of Colleges last year, cannot be implemented unless approved by the Academic Council and the highest body the Executive Council of Nagaland University and the Vice Chancellor has failed to seek their approval.
Secondly, he has engaged the firm Mindlogics Infratel Ltd Bangalore for the online examination system without floating any Tenders and without the mandatory approval of the University Purchase Committee, which is serious violation of University’s financial codal procedures.”
Thirdly, the teachers said, in violation of university confidentiality in regard to the preparations of examination results last year, the Vice Chancellor allowed the firm and its employees to supersede the university’s own examination section employees and deal with the undergraduate results, which resulted in serious anomalies/irregularities in results and mark sheets.
“Fourthly, regarding the Tenyidie question paper, the Vice Chancellor’s claim that it was translation error is completely false, as the Tenyidie questions were set in Tenyide language itself, moderated by the department concerned and it was failure of the firm he has hired, to ensure proper recognition of the Tenyidie language on its system,” the association said.
The association has questioned the Vice Chancellor for “his lack of seriousness as he failed to appoint a Controller of Examination to supervise the examinations, from among senior professors as per university norms, since the former Controller of Examination has been indicted by the CBI.”
Also, the NUTA alleged, the VC has made of mockery of Nagaland University by the latest introduction of “Hall tickets”, which the NUTA said, bears no authenticity and can be easily used by impersonators.
“The association strongly protests against the irresponsibility of the Vice Chancellor by continuously being out of station, even in Lumami, which has led to administrative failure, and in this instant case, risking careers of students and question of credibility of the university,” the association added.
DNSU, unions decry NU gaffe
The endless troubles of Nagaland University continue to exact condemnation from students’ organization. The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has said NU’s new ‘online delivery system’ has “created even more anomalies than ever before” while the Tenyimia Post-Graduate Students’ Union (TPGSU) has advised the university to start building the trust of the students.
The DNSU and the TPGSU issued separate press statements today. The DNSU has expressed resentment and has condemned what it called the lackadaisical attitude of Nagaland University during conducting the undergraduate examinations particularly the Teniyidie paper. The paper “was postponed at the last minute of the examination creating more chaos and confusion for the students with no fault of the students.”
The union also expressed apprehension at the implementation of “online examination” in Nagaland now. The DNSU explained: “It had created more anomalies then ever before. With the quality of the admission card, no less then an ordinary ‘electricity bill’, many errors in the students name and roll number etc. Moreover, it queried in awe that the font size of the questions is too small, where the students have a tough time going through their question papers font size.” The fate of the students is at stake, the union said, as they have to go undergo the “stress.”
The authorities in concerned are urged not to commit “any more so called errors, if so any more errors committed the students community would not hesitate to take its own course of action for the welfare of the students’ community.”
The Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Controller of Examination are also asked to be present in station and “take stock of the situation instead of justifying and expressing displeasure over the present situation.”
Tenyimia students have also decried Nagaland University’s latest slip-up. The TPGSU expressed ‘pain’ at the cancellation of the BA Tenyidie examination on Tuesday. “The failure to produce the online question papers to the Tenyidie students should be seriously examined as his means an insult to the Tenyidie students in particular and language as well as the public in general,” the TPGSU asserted in its note.
The TPGSU said the reasons of “erroneous question papers”, translation problems or “clueless on the cancellation of examination” fro “self-defense” is not acceptable.
The union stated, “If the concerned authority is heading for implementation of the new process of online delivery they should have introspected the pros and cons of the condition beforehand. It is intolerable and unforgivable for the students to learn .the absence of the Vice Chancellor, Registrar and Controller of Examination where the examination is in process.”
The TPGSU also censured the Vice Chancellor for being irresponsible administration and “hurting the sentiments of the innocent students”. As a father figure, he should have concern for the students, “his children” the TPGSU said. “However, the VC has shown step-fatherly treatment to the Tenyidie students’ community as well as the department. You should not ruin the students’ career with your malversation,” the TPGSU told the Vice Chancellor.
