NVCO calls on citizens to raise awareness about consumer rights

Dimapur, March 13 (MExN): Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has issued a press release stressing the importance of observing World Consumer Rights Day, which is celebrated on March 15 every year. The global event aims to raise awareness about consumer rights and needs, with the goal of empowering consumers to demand protection and stay safe from fraudulent activities in the marketplace.

In the release, NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi emphasized that consumer rights mean that every person has the right to information about the quality, purity, price, and standard of the products they purchase.

The day aims to raise awareness of consumer rights and needs and helps consumers realize their rights to demand protection and stay safe from fraudulent activities in the marketplace. The global theme for World Consumer Rights Day 2023 is “Clean Energy Transition,” the release stated.

Since the first celebration of World Consumer Rights Day in 1963, the event has grown in popularity and is celebrated every year with a specific theme. One of the most interesting themes, ‘Tackling Plastic Pollution’, aimed to raise awareness of sustainable consumption practices, focusing on the manufacturing and usage of plastics and their impact on the environment, it said.

According to the release, knowing our consumer rights is crucial because it enables us to identify when we are getting cheated or fooled. It also allows us to raise our voices and take legal action against any product or service that goes against our rights.

In Nagaland, consumers can seek help or guidance by calling up the Nagaland Consumer Helpline through Toll-Free No 1800 – 345 –3701 before approaching the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission or State Commission, it informed.

In his special message to the citizens and consumers of the state, Kezhokhoto Savi urged everyone to act together and raise awareness about consumer rights. He emphasized that if everyone in Nagaland works together, the society and government agencies will change for the better when it comes to consumer rights.
