DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers Organisation (NVCO) has urged the State Government to maintain reasonable prices/rates of essential commodities including items sold at the Hornbill site, control excessive rates, and provide good roads during the Christmas season.
“Unlike market trend of other states/places the traders in Nagaland tempt to take advantage of the season and sell at higher prices; be it clothes, eatables, decoration items, etc. Many butchers charge higher rates than the given government rates… and there is still complaint of shortage of weights and measures,” a press release from the NVCO stated.
It further pointed out that in the name of fund-raise, several groups of people, including churches sell pork at the rate of Rs 1000 for 2.5 kgs and even higher. It further stated that items are sold at very high rates in ‘Sales Days’ and at the Hornbill Festival including food, drinks, clothes, organic and locally available stuff, handicraft, etc. The NVCO urged the State Government, especially the district administrations, to immediately ban all these practices.
It meanwhile noted that good roads are a basic right for the citizens and urged the State Government “not to manipulate or divert fund for said works; stop deducting commissions” and also urged the concerned contractors to provide good quality works and complete projects within the stipulated time frames.
