Dimapur, July 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) and the state government, has announced an open state-level trial selection for freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling ahead of the 2027 National Games.
The selection trials will be held in Kohima on August 18 from 9 am. Participants have been asked to report at the venue one hour before the scheduled start.
The trials will be conducted in six weight categories each for freestyle (senior men), Greco-Roman (senior men) and women's wrestling.
The freestyle categories are 57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg, while the Greco-Roman events will be held in the 60 kg, 67 kg, 77 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg and 130 kg categories. The women's categories are 50 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, 68 kg and 76 kg.
The association said the trials are open to all eligible bona fide residents of Nagaland who meet the prescribed age and weight category requirements and are physically fit to participate.
Interested wrestlers have been asked to submit their name, age, gender and weight to the designated organisers on or before August 15.
According to the NWA, wrestlers selected from the open trials will attend a high-performance residential training camp in Kohima from August 20 to September 30.
On completion of the camp, a state-level championship-cum-selection trial will be held, following which the selected wrestlers will undergo an advanced national-level training camp at national training centres outside Nagaland from October 2026 to February 2027.
A final selection trial will then be conducted to choose one wrestler in each category to represent Nagaland at the 2027 National Games, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya in March 2027. Nagaland will co-host the wrestling events.
The final selected wrestlers will also undergo a competition preparation camp in Kohima in March 2027 until the conclusion of the Games.
The NWA said the latest notification supersedes its earlier circular (No. NWA/CIR-01/2026/107 dated July 10, 2026) regarding the wrestling coaching camp and directed all affiliated and provisional units to submit their list of wrestlers in the notified categories by August 15.
