NWU calls for hoisting white flags across 'South Nagalim'

Newmai News Network Senapati | September 3   The Naga Women Union (NWU) appealed every Naga families in “South Nagalim” to hoist white flags from September 8 to proclaim to the world the yearning for lasting peace and as a sign of resistance to all forms of oppression by demonstrating peace.   “It is our prayer and appeal to every Naga family in south Nagalim to solemnly hoist white flags in their homes from September 8, 2018, to proclaim to the world our yearning for lasting peace, and also, as a sign of our resistance to the violent protest against our rights as a people,” the NWU said in a statement.   The hoisting of flags, the Union further stated, was also a sign of reaching out to ‘within and without’ with the message of peaceful co-existence for a shared future and early solution for Indo-Naga Peace Process.   Stating that at this critical time, when the Nagas are faced with “aggression and antagonism in our journey to live in peace and dignity as a people,” the NWU called out to the “hearts and homes” across the Naga Hills to hoist the flag and “proclaim to the world our yearning for lasting peace.”   “As mothers, sisters and daughters, we have witnessed and experienced enough of violence and we do not wish the same for our children,” it noted adding, “We earnestly wish to broker the lack of space for dialogue and understanding within and without.”   “As mothers, sisters and daughters, we have witnessed and experienced enough of violence and we do not wish the same for our children,” it noted adding, “We earnestly wish to broker the lack of space for dialogue and understanding within and without.”   “We strongly believe that a shared future in which we can grow together can only be built by respecting each other’s aspiration and appreciating each other’s difficulties,” the NWU further said.   The Union also expressed its desire that no force should “disturb the peace efforts and undermine our ardent desire for lasting and redeeming peace” at this juncture when the Nagas are struggling between “a past that chain us and a future that seeks to embrace us all.”   ‘The NWU is embarking on this journey by hoisting white flags across the Naga Hills so that history may remember the story of Naga women, when white flags fluttered in Naga homes across the land in response to the hostility against our political journey to reclaim peace,” the Union added.
