Phek, July 19 (MExN): A newly constructed Nyekhatso-Shema Khühu, a traditional community gathering place, was inaugurated at Chozuba village in Nagaland's Phek district on July 18.
The Khühu was inaugurated by Küduve Keyho, Personal Secretary to the Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD), Nagaland, according to a statement.
Constructed by Dimapur Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Khrüsa Keyho, the facility is intended to serve as a venue for community gatherings and discussions on social and developmental issues.
Addressing the gathering, Küduve Keyho expressed hope that the Khühu would strengthen community unity and encourage constructive discussions on welfare and social matters.
He also highlighted developmental initiatives being implemented in the 18th Chozuba Assembly constituency under the leadership of CAWD Advisor Kudecho Khamo and urged residents not to politicise development works but to support them for the common good.
Former Chozuba Village Council chairman Dusapra Nyekha called on the younger generation to preserve the sanctity of the traditional institution.
Chozuba Village Council chairman Lhusetso Shijoh said the Khühu had also served as a venue for early Christian evangelism when Christianity reached Chozuba in 1895. Traditionally, he said, such structures functioned as centres for public discourse, conflict resolution and the sharing of indigenous knowledge, and urged the community to uphold those practices.
Head Gaon Bura (GB) of Chozuba village Zasevoyi Ringa also addressed the gathering.
Nyekhatso Shema Welfare Organisation (NSWO) chairman Vethito Keyho presented a report on the construction of the Khühu.
The programme was chaired by NSWO secretary Pudutso Nyekha and concluded with a vote of thanks by Shemami GB Thuyengoyi Keyho.
