NZP receives male Capped Langur from Assam

DIMAPUR, MAY 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP) Rangapahar received one male Capped Langur from Assam State Zoo, Guwahati on May 6 under the Captive Wildlife Exchange Programme.  

A press note from the NZP Director, Obed Bohovi Swu informed that in return, Nagaland Zoological Park has sent one female Capped Langur to Assam State Zoo. The male Capped Langur was successfully transported to Nagaland Zoological Park by staff of the Assam State Zoo, Guwahati led by Dr. Arindam Kr. Pachoni, Forest Veterinary Officer of Assam State Zoo, Guwahati.  

With the arrival of the Langur, one of the two female Capped Langurs will be his mate. The other female was sent to Assam State Zoo to be paired with another male Capped Langur. The exchange was approved by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi since Assam State Zoo did not have any female specimen whereas Nagaland Zoological Park had two specimens, both of which were females.  

The new arrival is being kept under quarantine at present for observation and acclimatization and will be introduced to the female after the quarantine period, it was informed.
