Nagaland Chief Minister along with Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-in-Chief, Eastern Command officially inaugurated the Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS) guest house at Chümoukedima, located near the DC complex on December 6.

The guest built under the initiative of OBASS, Nagaland Chapter had initially been conceptualised to be set up at Sainik School Punglwa, Peren in 2011. However, due to problems with viability and transportation, the site was relocated to Chümoukedima. The event saw in attendance former students from the different Sainik Schools including current students of Punglwa.

Being an alumnus of Sainik School Purulia himself, the CM regarded the occasion as a joyous reunion to rekindle with former school associates from the OBASS, Nagaland Chapter.

He revealed that as his father had also served in the Assam Regiment during the Second World War, Rio along with two of his brothers were sent to study at Sainik School.

“I am extremely grateful to our alma mater and the old boys for their continued contribution to nation building,” he said.

He also mentioned that with the establishment of the guest house, an additional regional convention centre is also in the pipelines to be set up for the purpose of meetings and conferences.

Lt General Kalita meanwhile applauded the steps taken to establish a guest in Chümoukedima by the OBASS, Nagaland Chapter. “It needs to be emulated by all other Sainik School Associations as well,” he said. He further encouraged the association to work towards improvement of the State along with contributing towards the nation.

Earlier, Lt General Kalita had also inaugurated a state-of-the-art Basketball Court at Vidya Bhavan Higher Secondary School at Dimapur, constructed by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna.

According to Lhoubeilatuo Kire, President of OBASS, the association’s Nagaland Chapter had been formed in the 1980s as a forum to bring about cohesive understanding among the ex-students, share and support in good or troubled times. Members of the association include a slew of current and former serving MLAs of the State.
