Old Boys’ Association Sainik School, Imphal (OBASSI) Nagaland Chapter joined the World Environment Day (WED) celebration on Tuesday by planting 40 tree saplings in the premises of District Hospital Dimapur.
Commissioner of Taxes, Kesonyu Yhome who was the special invitee planted the first tree sapling to mark the event and lauded the OBASSI, Nagaland Chapter for the thoughtful initiative. Stating that the theme, ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was quite relevant in a situation where 12.6 million metric tonnes of plastic waste was dumped into oceans every day, he said it was the responsibility of each person to contribute their bit for a cleaner and healthy environment. Yhome said India constitutes 60% of the total plastic waste dumped into oceans and called for the need to tackle the issue both locally and internationally.
OBASSI Nagaland Chapter, President, C. Lima Imsong said that the Association decided to join the WED celebration as advocates of cleaner, beautiful and sustainable environment and also as a social responsibility action.
Dimapur District Hospital officials, well wishers and a host of volunteers joined the OBASSI Nagaland Chapter during the plantation drive.
