Nagaland is filled with unemployed youth. And each morning they eagerly wait for the newspaper hoping to find jobs/advertisement befitting their qualifications. And of course, from time to time several posts in several departments are advertised in plenty, but only to dishearten them more.
In the recent advertisement of the Education Department, many are raising questions as to if only three subjects ie English, Mathematics and Science are taught in schools in Nagaland.
Secondly, in what procedure is the department going to recruit mathematics and science teachers? It is quite confusing because candidates from the science background with anthropology, geology, geography etc are appearing for the post of science teacher, where as, the govt.school syllabus does not at all tally with those subjects. Does the department think that candidates with those subject backgrounds can teach science? Or is the department planning to change the whole pattern of syllabus of the government schools of Nagaland?
Thirdly, as per my assumption as a mathematics teacher, I believe commerce has nothing to do with govt.schools maths syllabus. In the whole syllabus (class 5 to 10) we find only one chapter (ie commercial mathematics) in each book that is related to commerce.
Is the department aware of this? Then why is it said in the advertisement that those from commerce background can also apply for mathematics teacher?
The department must be well aware and informed of the subjects and syllabus of the schools and should wisely recruit teachers as per the syllabus pattern that has been given since the future of the generation lie in their hands.
