Mokokchung, July 21 (MExN): A special team from DEF Mokokchung arrested one Meyiwapang alias Wapangmeren (44) on charges of extortion on July 19.
According to a press release from the ADCP/PRO Mokokchung Police, basing on input from sources that some unidentified persons were extorting/collecting money from various shops in Mokokchung main town area, a special team of DEF Mokokchung was detailed to nab the extortionist.
Subsequently, the accused was arrested from the town area, the release stated.
“During interrogation the arrested accused revealed that he joined NSCN (K/Niki) in the month of May 2021. He admitted to have extorted a sum of Rs 11,000 from two shops in Mokokchung Town,” the release stated. It also said that some demand slips and incriminating documents were seized from his possession. In this connection, a case has been registered at Mokokchung PS-1 and thorough investigation is going on, the PRO informed.
