One injured as NSCN-K (Ang Mai) accuses YA of ‘unprovoked attack’

DIMAPUR, June 1 (MExN): The NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) on Monday accused the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) group of carrying out a “deliberate and unprovoked attack” on its cadres at Hoku village in Nanyun Township, Myanmar, at around 6:00 a.m. on May 28, leaving one of its personnel seriously injured.

In a statement issued by its MIP, the group said Rajapeyu Sgt Kambey of Ranchi village under the Tangshang Region sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the assault. “Despite the severity of the assault, he narrowly escaped death and survived with the assistance and support of local villagers working in the surrounding fields,” the MIP stated.

The NSCN-K (Ang Mai) said its cadres were “engaged in official duties in the area” when the attack took place.

The group said it had exercised “utmost restraint and refrained from launching offensive action against” the NSCN-K (YA) in response to a collective call for peace made by Naga national political organisations and civil society groups.

Claiming the incident as a “grave violation of the spirit of peace and reconciliation,” the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) called upon all Naga political organisations, civil society groups, and peace loving citizens to condemn what it termed a “barbaric and reckless act of violence.” It cautioned that “the continued cycle of bloodshed and fratricidal conflict among Nagas serves only to undermine the collective aspirations, unity, and future of the Naga Nation.”

The NSCN-K (Ang Mai) said it remained committed to the pursuit of peace, justice and the protection of Naga interests, “but such acts of intentional aggression should be condemned and should not be ignored by the general Naga Public.”
