
Newmai News Network Imphal | January 12 A civilian was killed and three others were injured on Thursday when unidentified armed men attacked an Imphal-bound convoy of loaded trucks escorted by heavy security personnel at Lukhambi of Noney district, some 62 km west of Imphal, along Imphal-Jiribam road around 4:30 pm. According to Police, a convoy of over 500 goods-laden trucks was on their way towards Imphal when they were attacked by the unidentified people with sophisticated weapons, killing one civilian and injuring three others at the spot. A separate source said that the victims (all civilians) were travelling in a car when the incident happened. The police report said the injured were rushed to Assam Rifles Unit Hospital, Noney where they were treated but later sent to Imphal for better treatment. However, police did not divulge any information on whether they retaliated to the alleged ambush. The deceased has been identified as one Dikhonang (25), s/o Tajinnang Panmei of Tamenglong while the injured were identified as Thuannilung (31) – a school teacher from Taobam village, Jacky Kahmei (30) of Tamenglong, and Nipen Kalita (24). All the trucks were stuck in the area following the fatal attack but later moved towards the state capital around 6:30 pm. The vehicles include 14 petrol tankers, 43 diesel tankers, 31 LPG bullet tankers, 54 FCI rice-loaded trucks and 104 cement-loaded trucks. Meanwhile, over 800 loaded trucks at Jiribam are waiting for security personnel to move towards Imphal.
