KOHIMA, JUNE 15 (MExN): One person has been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for the rape of a minor in Kohima. Principal District & Sessions Judge cum Special Judge, Kohima, Duvelu Vero sentenced the accused, identified as one Vishnu Sahani, to undergo rigorous imprisonments of 20 years to be served at District Jail Kohima, in an order dated June 13.
As per the Judgment, the offence of ‘penetrative sexual assault’ was committed on a child below 16 years of age. The case was investigated by UBSI Vikuobinuo and the prosecution was led by Special Public Prosecutor Sashimongla Jamir.
The Special Judge stated that the prosecution has proved all the charges Under Section 376 AB IPC R/W 4 POCSO ACT beyond reasonable doubt. The accused shall undergo 20 years imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 3000; and in default of payment to fine, undergo simple imprisonment for a period of 3 months.
The Special Judge also directed to process through Kohima District Legal Service Authority for payment of compensation to the victim under the Victim Compensation Scheme formulated by the State Government.
