KOHIMA, DECEMBER 14 (MExN): The Principal District & Sessions Judge & Special Judge POCSO Act, Kohima, Duvelu Vero, NJS, has convicted and sentenced one Chita Debarman to undergo rigorous imprisonment of 20 years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000 for sexual assault of a minor girl.
A press release from the Special Public Prosecutor Kohima, Sashimongla Jamir informed that the convict was arrested in connection with Kohima Women P.S Case No.0001/2020 for sexual assault of a minor girl below 12 years of age at Phezoucha (New Secretariat, Kohima) colony. The case was investigated by SI Yawao and the trial was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor Sashimongla Jamir.
The judge while pronouncing the judgment in the open Court said that, the prosecution case against the convict U/S. 376 AB/IPC and Section 6 POCSO Act has proved beyond all reasonable doubt. Further the judge directed the Secretary, Kohima District Legal Authority to process for payment of compensation to the victim if not recommended earlier.
In default of payment of the fine, the convict will undergo another simple imprisonment of 3 months.
