Local church initiates training on animal health care & management
Jalukie, May 14 (MExN): One day training programme was organised by Jalukie Town Ao Baptist Church Resource Management Committee on May 12 at Jalukie Town Ao Baptist Church, Jalukie with the theme ‘One World One Health.’
The Convenor, Bendangonen Jamir in his keynote address, challenged the participants about the responsibility of humankind towards all created beings and particularly mentioned about live-stocks who are human’s closes neighbour and source for all wellbeing.
He also brought to the knowledge of the participants about many emerging Zoonotic diseases which affects both human and animal health, and how farmers should be aware of such diseases.
Pointing out that international organisations such as WHO and OIE has taken forward the theme ‘One World One Health’ which was first coined at Wildlife Conservation Society in 2004, Jamir urged that as responsible Christians and as a church, one should be in tune with the sustainable livestock production model by raising healthy and happy livestock, as “happy animals produces healthy meat, milk and eggs.’
Resource person, Dr. Sentitula, IFS, (Ph.D in Animal genetics and Breeding) Divisional Forest officer, Peren, delivered a talk on “Care, Management and Breeding of Poultry.” She spoke on a number of sub themes such as Poultry Broiler farming, Layer Poultry farming, Backyard poultry farming and the economics of raising livestock.
The DFO also gave practical steps on setting up brooder houses, deep litter system of raising the poultry; advantages and benefits of feeding different feed ingredients during different stages of poultry rearing. She concluded the presentation by discussing on various important economical disease affecting poultry and how these diseases can be controlled properly through timely vaccination.
Resource person Dr. Imtiwati, (Ph.D degree in Livestock Production Management), Assistant Professor, College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren delivered a talk on critical manage-mental interventions for profitable Piggery. His presentation covered various topics on critical management of pregnant gilts/sows to be adopted before, during and after farrowing in sow, Management of piglet’s upto 2 months of age, growers and boar. He also appraised about the present and future scenario of piggery in Nagaland having huge potential in this sector in the coming decade. His presentation concluded with a message that “piggery in the state will be profitable if we adopt scientific and modern managemental practices”.
Earlier, the programme started with a prayer by Pastor T. Yanger Ao. It concluded with benediction by Deacon, I. Sungit, which was followed by Animal Health care camp, distribution of free medicines and vaccination. Sungjeminla and Rongsentila, Veterinary Field Assistant assisted the doctors present in handling more than 50 cases.
