Online workshop on research methodology held

Kohima, November 13 (MExN): The Research Committee, Sazolie College, Jotsoma, organized a two-day online workshop on ‘Research Methodology, Writing and Publication’ on November 11 and 12.

The objective of the workshop was to orient faculty members, research scholars and students towards specific objectives of scientific research, the College informed in a press release on Saturday.

Around 160 participants including teachers, research scholars, and students from different states in India took part in the two-day online workshop, it stated.

The inaugural session of the workshop was chaired by Dr Narola Dangti, HOD (Dept of English), Sazolie College and Dr Kangzangding Thou, Principal, Sazolie College, gave the welcome address. Prof Virginius Xaxa (Retd) University of Delhi & Former Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Guwahati Campus) was the keynote speaker. He conceptualized methodology as a knowledge production and research as a systematic pursuit of knowledge.

The first day’s sessions were chaired by Dr David Sachü, HOD(Dept of Political Science) and Dr Puspanjoli B Nakhro, Academic Dean, Sazolie College. The resource persons of the sessions were Prof BK Danta, Professor of English, Tezpur University, Tezpur and Prof Kedilezo Kikhi, Professor of Sociology, Tezpur University, Tezpur. They addressed the philosophical methodologies by presenting a critique to positivist rationality through critical Hermeneutic methodology and phenomenological methodology.

On the second day, Medosano Mary (Assistant Professor, Department of History), Limanaro Imsong, (Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science) and Robinson Temsϋ Jamir (Assistant Professor, Department of History), Sazolie College, chaired the sessions.

The resource persons were Fr (Dr) Paul Padussery, CSC, Director, Association for Social and Human Advancement, Prof Bhupen Sarmah, OKD, Institute of Social Change & Development, Guwahati, Shoma Choudhury, Commissioning Manager, Routledge India (Francis & Taylor), Delhi.

Fr (Dr) Paul Padussery and Prof Bhupen Sarmah discussed the various dimensions and methods of collecting data, while Shoma Choudhury presented the different structural components of writing and publishing.

The summary and vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr Thepfusalie Theunuo, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Sazolie College.
