On Teachers’ Day, Governor, CM acknowledge important role teachers play
Kohima, September 3 (MExN): On the occasion of Teachers’ Day which is celebrated on September 5 every year, Governor and Chief Minister of Nagaland have extended greetings to all the teachers.
In his message, Governor PB Acharya said there is a great reason behind the celebration of Teachers’ Day on September 5; it is the birthday of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the first President of India and one of the most respected teachers and thinkers of the country.
Dr. Radhakrishnan, Acharya stated, was a great person and highly devoted towards education and always kept reminding of the importance of teachers. Celebrating Teachers’ Day on his birthday gives an opportunity for all to be inspired by the life and teachings of Dr. Radhakrishnan, whose dream was that “Teachers should be the best minds in the country,” he added.
The Governor further maintained that teachers are the backbone of society. “They play a great role in building up the character of students and shaping them to become an ideal citizen of India.” The future of the country is taking shape inside the classrooms and through the work of the teachers; hence, he said, teachers need to be honoured and respected by the society.
Meanwhile, the Governor told the teachers that the role of a teacher in shaping one’s life is very significant. “Yours is a noble profession. Only the best should be given teaching job. As a teacher, you are more than just an educator, a mentor and a friend,” he added. Acharya advised them to empower their students instead of giving teaching through routine lectures. He highlighted that the present day world has numerous challenges for the students, adding it is very competitive now. Teachers, he further said, should inculcate values and ethics amongst children.
The Governor was glad to note that Nagaland has been advancing in the field of literacy. He acknowledged that this was just because of the teachers. “A good teacher can convert a dull student into a brilliant one," he added.
On the other hand, he appealed to the students to remember that teachers and parents are their best well wishers and that they must learn to respect them.
In a separate message, Chief Minister TR Zeliang asserted teaching is one of the oldest and most respected professions ever since the beginning of civilization. He noted that it is the teachers who mold and shape, not only their students, but also the future of the society and the nation. “Hence, it is natural that in most of the advanced countries, only the best and brightest people in the society are selected for the teaching profession,” Zeliang stated.
“Although, in less developed and developing societies like ours, such high level of selectivity for the teaching profession may not be possible now, but that should be our goal, if we really mean to build an advanced and humane society.”
Extending warmest greetings to all the teachers in the country, he also urged them to work with renewed energy and dedication to build a prosperous and just society we dreamt for.
NSF pays tribute to teachers
While paying tribute to all the teachers for their selfless and precious effort in shaping the future of the students, Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has urged the teachers to be more sincere and committed in their duties and continue to motivate the students to make them successful in life. In a press release issued in view of the Teachers’ Day, the Federation expressed gratitude to all the teachers. “It is well said that teachers are the backbone of the society and the builder of a nation. The growth and development of an individual, society and country solely depends on the quality of education imparted by a good teacher,” stated the release issued by NSF Secretary Education, Imtiyapang.
