‘Only unity and inclusivity among Nagas can bring us closer to our goal’

Gen Niki Sumi (Retd)
President, NSCN/GPRN
Greetings to all on this auspicious Republic Day.
My heartfelt revolutionary salute to all the martyrs and Naga national workers.

As we the Nagas stand on the threshold of divisiveness of our own making aided by the adversaries, we should ponder as to how we can preserve and emerge victorious.

God in his infinite wisdom has created all with a purpose but sadly, NPGs, state officials/politicians and religious leaders have misplaced priorities due to their individualistic interest overshadowing and taking over the national interest. For instance, MLAs and Ministers interfering in religious affairs and vice versa by the religious leaders.

Factionalism has cropped up due to individualistic interest, taking precedence over national interest aided by India's divisive policies. Therefore, we, the Nagas should seriously ponder whether this fashion of factionalism trending in Naga-inhabited areas will benefit the Nagas.

Tribal leaders have also forgotten the priorities to contribute towards the nation. I do believe there are many good leaders and hope they do not feel offended by my generalization. The over-ground leaders have more factions but have developed the habit of always blaming the underground groups. Why can't they first unify and pressure the political groups to come together as one and pursue the aspirations of the Nagas?

For instance, the tribal hohos are forming youth fronts and are clandestinely arming themselves for a tribal showdown. Why can't the tribal leaders contribute towards the nation building by cooperating with each other to bring all organisations under one umbrella such as the Naga Hoho, Naga Students Federation and Naga Mother's Association?

NSCN/GPRN believes in one Naga Nation, one Naga people and one inclusive Naga political solution. Therefore, NSCN/GPRN steadfastly hold on to the belief and ideology that only unity and inclusivity among the Nagas would bring us closer to our goal of attaining our desired political aspirations.

NSCN/GPRN has and will defend and protect our inherent and inalienable Naga political rights.
Kuknalim.
