Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): Ruing that no arrest was initiated, the Superintendent of Police of Dimapur is asked to initiate prompt and befitting action against the IRB personnel who assaulted a person attached to the DEF on May 28. The Dimapur Longmisa Senso Telongjem, making this demand, has cautioned that failure to uphold the law would invite a ‘very unwanted but avoidable situation.’
The organization in a letter to the SP of Dimapur made mention that ABC Meyinungtok of DEF was assaulted by 10 IRB personnel stationed at Supply Colony, Police Reserve. An FIR was lodged in the West police Station.
Armed Branch Constable (ABC) Meyinungtok was not handed over “to your police station” till 1:30 am, May 29 ‘even after he became unconsciousness.’ He is currently struggling for his life in Dimapur Civil Hospital, the Telongjem’s letter appended by its general secretary Shijungmeren informed the police chief.
The victim was later established to be innocent, an innocent victim of the IRB’s brutality as was confirmed by “the accused persons arrested by your West Police Station.” They were arrested because of scuffling with some IRB personnel in a booze joint at Supply Colony, the Telongjem informed.
“We are shocked and outraged that a police personnel even after disclosing his identity, should be maimed and confined in a police camp without handing over to the jurisdiction’s police station,” the organization lamented. The organization expressed disappointment that “you, as the guardian of your police constable victim” should award befitting punishment to the rogue IRB personnel.
The organization lamented that even after two days of the assault incident the culprits stationed at “your reserved colony” were not arrested while the victim continued to struggle for his life, on life-support system in Dimapur. The organization has demanded that the process of law be upheld so as to avoid ‘very unwanted but avoidable situation’ arising out of this delay in taking action on the matter.
