Organizations flay Manipur’s ‘wanted’ order

Dimapur, June 12 (MExN): A number of organizations today expressed condemnation for the arrest warrants issued against some leaders of the United Naga Council and All Naga Students’ Association of Manipur by the state government of Manipur. The decision of the Manipur government in declaring the presidents of UNC and ANSAM as “wanted” is inviting more enmity against the Naga society, stated separates notes from CNPO, ANTA and LNKK.

The CNPO said declaring the leaders “wanted” will not solve the economic-blockade as there are “there are thousands of Samson and David, and thousands are willing to sacrifice for Nagas rights.” Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi must amend the ADC 3rd amendment 2008 and the ADC elections must be declared null and void, the CNPO said and if not “Nagas are ready for any eventuality and economic-blockade would not cease without mutual-understanding whatsoever.”  The CNPO note was appended by its president Nunghlung Victor.

Also, the ANTA of the Anal tribe condemned the decision of the Ibobi led-government for ‘proclaiming the leaders of ANSAM and UNC as “wanted”’ with Case Prize Rs. 1 Lakh each on their head. “The decision of government clearly indicates the premature ness of the Ibobi governance, in running the office of the state by showing indifferences attitude towards the hills people,” the ANTA said in a note from its general secretary Augustine.

The ANTA explained that the reason for launching economic blockades “is against the ADC 3rd Amendment Act ’08 which deny the Rights of the tribal passed by Ibobi self styled government the ANTA further wants to know why Ibobi is still remaining deaf ear to the genuine demands of the tribal or what have prevented you from rectifying/amending the act?”   O Ibobi is the sole responsible person for this whole state of affairs, ANTA stated.

Also, another organization, LNKK said the declaration of Manipur government is “unethical and irresponsible thereby inviting more tension between the hills tribal and valley people especially the Meiteis.” The note was appended by its president SK Shetoi.

The LNKK referred to how the Meitei Mayek/Manipuri language was included in the 8th schedule with the support of the tribal. “Then, how come the economic-blockade against ADC Elections, 2010 under ADC Amendment Act, 2008 be not understood and support by the Meiteis when tribal oppose to it? Is there ‘give and take’ co-existence? No, which means the tribal are deprived of thin rights over landownership and decision making,” the note stated. “Therefore, it is deemed fit to endorse the UNC ultimatum from GOM, failing which Nagas will not remain silent,” it added.
