A three-day long annual sports meet 2022 of Oriental College Kohima kicked start today at D. Khel Ground, Seikhazou. Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, chairman, Nagaland Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB), Government of Nagaland, graced the inaugural function as the special guest.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, he noted how times have changed and how “we are living a fast paced lifestyle.”
He emphasized on the importance of sports, fitness, smart living and smart thinking in this rapidly changing and competitive world. Games and sports are not only part of our activities but it has become important for our physical fitness and our health well-being, he said.
He advised the students to take up the sports meet not just as a 3 day event but as an opportunity to consider sports as a career.
Dr. Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, Principal OCK said that the three day sports activities is also a part of the year long Silver Jubilee Celebration of the college.
He urged upon the players to inculcate the right sportsman spirit, to take the opportunity that is given to the students to excel, expose their hidden talents through the 3 days Sports event with the willingness to participate and to grow.
The administration of oath was led by Dziesetseizo Neihu, Games and Sports Secretary, OCKSU.
The programme was chaired by Changsie, General Secretary OCKSU. Evangelical Union president Laisang invoked God’s blessing. Special number was presented by Sedevituo Solo.
The first event started off with 100m race for both men and women. Kevirudo(White House)bagged the gold medal followed by Kethosilie(Blue House) and Thenuozelhou( Blue)who bagged silver and bronze respectively. In women’s 100 m race, Avoshelu( Blue House) bagged the gold medal followed by Veyevolu ( White House ) and Chinkin (Red House), winning silver and bronze respectively.
Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome, president Kohima District Football Association will grace the valedictory function on November 4 as the guest of honour.
