The raids conducted by Income Tax department on Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra’s financial management and assets have indeed thrilled the media fraternity and the entire economist of the country.
It is now reported that the former Miss World and actress, Priyanka Chopra owned nine allegedly illegal flats in Mumbai - five are located in Raj Classic building at Andheri, where she lives apart from the fact that unaccounted crores of cash which were recovered from her apartments. The sensational bollywood actress Katrina Kaif’s disposing off her wealth in London is speculated to be true besides some credible evidence of voluntary tax evasion.
The raids came at a time when the country’s wealth management is in the limelight and the country is rocked by scams and frauds besides the increasing price of daily essential commodities. Thanks to the timely initiative taken by I-T when the upcoming generation; not forgetting the rural Indians, were optimistic of big upliftments and social change in the country.
But for majority countrymen, it was indeed an awakening to realize on the importance of analysing the distance between the rich and the poor in our country; a time to ponder upon the fact as to how stardom and entertainment has captivated the never-hungry hearts of humans that some amassed so much of fortune and still go on, thus prompting BP Gaur, director general (investigation), I-T, Mumbai to go even to the extent of seizing their computer hard discs for close scrutiny. While Indians do not hesitate to rush for the first releases of their films as a way of entertainment and encouragement, we failed to channelize and encourage judicious use of their wealth for mass development in the country at first.
While it is also well known that celebrities do increasingly involve in charities today, our celebrities and stars in general have not scaled at par — their humanism to the proportion of the fan support they get to become popular as stars. They hit six-sixes in one over like Yuvraj but not even two runs in the arena of charity!
Indeed the I-T department indirectly claimed most of the gifts of our stars today as fishy. The classic example of such is gifting a villa on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai worth Rs 17.84 crore to one Nakheel by our heartthrob superstar Sharukh Khan. The I-T department’s statement after careful analysis as reported was that “the (receiving) individual or company is an artificial juristic person devoid of any natural senses such as love and affection. This rules out the concept ‘natural love and affection’ and ‘without any consideration’ which are vital elements to characterize the gift.” Gift is not worth the word gift but rather self promotion or business in other words for many today.
The upcoming possibility and expectation of more I-T penalties on our stars is even too good a deal for such literal stars in whose country are 410 million poverty-stricken people groaning and are yet content being their fans.
