‘Our mother tongue, our hope’: Call for promotion of Tenyidie

Scores of Tenyidie language teachers, writers, educationists, public leaders, students and subject experts today converged for a two-day long 52nd seminar of Ura Academy in Kohima under the theme, ‘Our mother tongue, our hope.’

Speaking at the inaugural session today, Dr Zavise Rume, Professor, State Council of Educational Research &Training (SCERT) Nagaland stressed on the need promote cultural values of Tenyimia through literary works.

He said that foreigners like Britishers came and found the Nagas as a people with finest human values who practiced the purest democracy and purest form of republic system of government similar to that of the ancient Greek society.

He said that the modern agricultural scientists could not give better method of agricultural farming than the terrace cultivation the Tenyimia have been practicing since time immemorial.

“We must promote all these indigenous knowledge that the upcoming younger generations must learn,” he said.

Urging Ura Academy to undertake short term teachers training, orientation to train teachers on how to teach Tenyidie, he said “We must promote Tenyidie through social media like YouTube. We must expand our mission of learning Tenyidie beyond Tenyimia community.”

Let all the children and upcomming younger generations learn Tenyidie like any other foreign language through academic course of study, he said.

He also stressed on the need to organize regular interactions through webinars, seminar to promote native songs, dances, stories, indigenous sports, games and local festivals.
 
‘Language is a gift of God’
Rev Tsolie Chase maintained that languages and words are powerful medium that unite people and bring the community closer.

Stating that language is a gift of God, he asked Ura Academy to make more efforts to further develop and carry forward Tenyidie language.

Dr Metuo Liezietsu and Dr Kelhoukhrienuo Sekhose shared their experiences on completion of Ph.D in Tenyidie.

Angami Public Organization (APO) first president Zapuvisie Lhousa, Prof. D. Kuolie and others also spoke at the inaugural session.

The session was chaired by Ura Academy vice president Daso Paphino

Ura Academy president Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) former speaker Thenucho Tunyi also present at the inaugural session.
 
Riipfhiinuoko Krotho session
Later, in the second session, Khriesenuo Solo, Reader, SCERT talked on “Nagaland Heritage Textbooks and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.”

Vizomenuo Yhome, Asst Professor, Kohima Science College Jotsoma talked on “Choice based credit system.” A topic on “Language promotion with NagaEd” was shared by duo Kevisatuo Sanyü and Shiroi Lily Shaiza from NagaEd. Medongulie Tseikha, Asst. Professor, Kohima College spoke on the topic “Desirable outcome of a teacher.”
 
Tenyidie Kephrűnuoko Krotho session
Meanwhile, the formal session for May 27 will start from 9:30 onwards with Vizonyii Liezietsu, (Retd) Agriculture Director Nagaland and member Board of Post Graduate Studies, Nagaland University (NU) Tenyidie department as the speaker.

The second session, starting from 11:00 onwards, will be marked by story writing, poetry and extempore speech competition.

The third session will witness music and art performances from 12:00 onwards.

Keduolhoulie Belho, Asst. Professor Kohima College Kohima, Tenyidie department will exhort the gathering.

Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu will deliver presidential address at the valedictory function at 4:00 PM.
