PAC condemns factional clash, security forces

Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the DAN government today held an emergency meeting in Kohima where it expressed deep shock and anguish over the incident at Tizit on 26th August, 2010 wherein a Major of NSCN- IM, namely Ngachonmi Tangkhul was gunned down by the paramilitary forces. DR. T. M. LOTHA Chairman  PAC and Co-Convenor of DAN in a press note condemned the paramilitary forces pointing out that this was a direct violation of the mutually agreed upon ceasefire ground rules.

Stating that everyone was well aware of the ongoing political talks between the GOI and the NSCN- IM and that every Naga was praying for an early solution to the protracted Naga political issue, the PAC pointed out that many mass-based Naga civil societies and other agencies have been making concerted efforts to bring a peaceful environment in the state. “And today a relative peace is felt everywhere. Therefore, the PAC has appealed to the Paramilitary forces not to repeat such acts and further appeal them and also all Naga groups to exercise maximum restraint so as to strengthen ongoing peace talks to reach its final settlement of the Naga Political issue”.

The PAC also expressed deep pain over what it termed as the unfortunate incident at Mekokla in Wokha district wherein one cadre of the NSCN-K, Mr. Zaremo Odyuo lost his precious life due to factional clashes. “Such incident can only become a roadblock to the efforts made by the mass-based civil societies and other agencies. The whole Naga people is crying for peace and that God bless upon the Naga people for declaring the Covenant of Reconciliation which was signed by major Naga political groups”, it stated.  As such, the PAC made a fervent appeal to all the Naga political groups to respect the Covenant of Reconciliation and to listen to the voice of the Nagas and maintain peace and harmony amongst them for the greater interest of the Naga people to bring about final solution to the political problem.
