DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 5 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) on illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants (IBI) under Naga Council has condemned the latest incident of rape and murder committed by one Md. Saidul Alam, 26. A press note issued by the Co-Ordinator Public Action Committee (PAC) has stated that the accused “a possible illegal Bangladeshi immigrant (IBI)” is the “same story repeating itself and the unfortunate victim this time is Meena Rai, who, apart from being violated, was killed and her body chopped up”.
“Time and again, the IBIs, despite being guests in this land have shown that they have no respect for its masters and the Naga people are witnesses, that, inspite of the vociferous protestations of various Muslim organisations condemning such incidents, the fact is that illegal immigrants from their community are practically having a free run in the state engaging in anti-social activities”, stated the press note.
While condemning the incident in no uncertain terms the PAC of Naga Council called upon the Angami community of Medziphema and Chumukedima to nib the menace of illegal immigrants in their jurisdiction by identifying all such illegal immigrants and expelling them. In case where their alien status is difficult to prove, boycotting of their business establishments through awareness Pledge Campaign should be taken up immediately and PAC is on hand to offer every help, it stated.
Pointing out that the tackling of IBIs is a joint effort and that the PAC alone cannot handle this unless there’s a pan-Naga effort, the press note stated that now was the time to do so.
The Naga Council also stated that the statement of Medziphema Masjid Committee that the accused is unknown to the body was “an insult to the intelligence of all Nagas”.
“The fact is that certain Muslim organisations do not want identification of IBI community at any cost which is anything but to check anti-social activities by these IBI community. But when members from the IBI community commit crimes, Muslim organisations refuse to take responsibility and feign ignorance. Such a stance will not build healthy relationships and ultimately these organisations have to take the blame for any untoward incidents in future”, the PAC note stated.
