DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): Nagaland Paediatric Dentists, along with their dental team, conducted an oral health outreach programme for children with special needs at Angel Home, Dimapur, on June 25.

A total of 45 children from Angel Home, which supports children with intellectual disabilities, and Prodigal's Home, which cares for children with visual impairment and rescued children, participated in the programme.

The outreach focused on promoting oral health awareness and preventive dental care among the children and their caregivers. Interactive demonstrations on proper tooth-brushing techniques were conducted, while individual guidance was provided to help each child learn brushing methods suited to their needs and abilities.

The dental team also carried out comprehensive oral health examinations for all participating children. Preventive treatments, including Acidulated Phosphate Fluoride (APF) gel application and Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) application, were provided where required to strengthen teeth and help prevent the progression of dental decay.

To encourage continued oral hygiene practices, visual brushing instruction posters were distributed to the homes for daily reference. The children also received small gifts during the programme.

The paediatric dental team expressed gratitude to the management, caregivers and children of Angel Home and Prodigal's Home for their cooperation and participation.

The team stated that the outreach reflects its ongoing commitment to community service, preventive dentistry and improving oral health awareness among underserved children and those with special needs.
