Wokha, December 7 (MExN): The District Administration under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme organized a seminar on successful parenting on December 7 at Town Hall, Wokha.

The DIPR report from Wokha stated that the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS, while addressing the programme said that in the case of Wokha, the male-female child ratio is 954 female children for 1000 male children which indicate lesser number of girl child in the district.

The DC said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme is monitored from the higher authority and Ministry from the Prime Minister’s Office. All the selected districts throughout India have been directed to send the activities they are undertaking on daily basis through various mode of communication. The DC maintained that “there are some detrimental practices in various parts of our country which is actually leading to decline in child sex ratio and the practices for female feticide is one such practices of female infanticide.”

He said that in some states, pregnant parents go for ultrasound or do selective abortion which is a very heinous practice. However, he expressed happiness that such practices are not prevalent in our state.

The DC believed that discrimination against women in the society has to be done away and there should be a change of mindset as to make women "take decision and hold position in the society.”
