The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, in celebration of Pariksha Parv 7.0, conducted a district-level orientation and sensitisation programme in Zunheboto. The event was organised by the District Education Office (DEO) Zunheboto on April 24 at Government Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto.

Kenneth Jakha, ADEO Zunheboto, elaborated that the main objective of the programme was to equip parents and encourage them to understand how to manage children's stress. He emphasized that both parents and teachers play a crucial role in helping children cope with stress.

He pointed out that the main causes of stress among children include tension, worry, over thinking and pressure from various situations. These can sometimes lead to extreme outcomes such as suicidal thoughts, although Nagaland has not reported any such cases so far.

Some of the symptoms of stress include a rapid heartbeat, headache, nausea, diarrhea, shortness of breath, fainting, shaking, and dry mouth.

He also highlighted key steps to handle stress effectively, which include providing regular feedback, maintaining open communication between parents and teachers, encouraging healthy habits, avoiding excessive pressure, and celebrating small achievements of children. “Don't hesitate to send your children to government schools and colleges,” he encouraged.

Earlier in the programme, Ramdeuna, DEO Zunheboto, who chaired the session, mentioned that while many parents complain about the lack of teachers in government schools, the bigger issue is the lack of students. Despite having well-qualified teachers, many parents choose private institutions over government schools.

The programme concluded with an interactive session with the parents. A total of 155 parents attended the event.
