Says desperate politics on religious lines ‘very uncalled for’
Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in no way “anti- Naga or Anti- Christian” nor is the party “anti Naga custom or Naga ways of life,” BJP Nagaland declared today, while charging those asserting otherwise of playing “desperate politics on religious lines.”
The allegation of BJP as “anti-Naga, anti- Christian, anti-faith, and anti-custom” are completely “false, baseless and unfounded,” asserted a press release from State Media Cell, BJP, Nagaland.
‘As one of the largest National Political Parties, BJP respects all religions,’ it said.
Moreover, the Constitution of India guarantees equal rights to “every citizen of India to practice any religion of their choice and to honour and respect every religion,” it added.
No members of the BJP have any such intention to “proliferate our Christian faith with Hinduism,” it stated.
“In fact, members of BJP Nagaland are no less Christians than members from any political parties in the State, and therefore, playing desperate politics on religious lines is very uncalled for,” it added.
On the issue of Naga traditional decorative pieces on Puja pandals, the State Unit claimed that it was old video from the year 2020 in Kharagpur that went viral on social media in recent days, and has nothing to do with the BJP.
The State Unit particularly took taking cognizance of “series of utterances” reportedly by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie on October 7, who it alleged, has tendency of habitually blaming BJP for “all the mishaps that happen under the sun” for undue political mileage.
The Nagaland BJP further denied charges of being ‘anti- Naga or anti Naga custom or Naga ways of life’ by rhetorically posing: How can a ruling party at the Centre under Prime Minister Modi be called anti-Nagas? Under whose Prime Ministership did the Naga Political issue gain momentum?
On its party, the party asserted that the BJP will continue to serve the people to ensure that its welfare programs become accessible to every section of people in the society based on its development for all ideology.
The party shall continue and aspire to focus more on development sector and shall not be deterred by negative agendas, it added.
