Dimapur | November 20
While the state Minister for Power calls for patience, problem after problems continue to afflict the electricity distribution system. Just a week after fire engulfed a power transformer at the Nagarjan Sub-station, another crisis hit the same station cutting supply to several localities and villages in Dimapur on November 20.
According to a Power department official, a 20Mva transformer malfunctioned at the Nagarjan Sub-station forcing a shutdown. The shutdown completely cut supply to Naharbari, Nagarjan, Thilixu and colonies/villages drawing from the Industrial Estate, Super Market and 4th Mile (CIHSR) sub-stations since 4:00 pm today. The official informed that inspection and repair of the transformer would begin on Tuesday morning. Stating that the problem can be known only after an inspection of the equipment, the official added that resumption of supply would depend on the extent of the problem and duration of repair. The November 12 transformer fire and Monday’s malfunction was interjected in between by a partial shutdown of the Industrial Estate Sub-station on November 17 and 18 after it sustained an equipment snag. It caused blackouts in several localities on November 17, which extended well into the next day.
