NAGALAND’S PATKAI Christian College today formally entered the history books as the only institution in the North east region and even Eastern India being granted full autonomy status by the University Grant Commission. Following its accreditation with B++ grade by National Assessment & Accreditation Council, the college fulfilled the criteria and achieved the deserving status of autonomy on July 15, 2005.
Gracing the momentous occasion to formally launch this achievement, Governor of Nagaland Shyamal Datta said the granting of autonomy involves both academic freedom and greater social responsibility.
The College has the freedom to now think and act to design its own syllabus, curriculum, administration and examination procedure besides other facilities on the campus.
Datta however cautioned that in order to excel, the board and the faculty must consider and relate education in a way that needs the demand of the fast changing market environment. “Education at the end of the day is employment oriented”, the Governor added.
Terming Patkai Christian College as ‘an island of excellence’ and ‘beacon of hope’ Datta pointed that the college was a shinning example to other colleges in Nagaland and should continue to walk on the footprints of success.
Datta requested the teachers to expound their unlimited influence on students in creating curiosity in the minds of the students. He urged the students to enrich dignity of labor and strongly believed this to be a nucleus to form an environment with social values and create initiatives for sustenance and self reliance.
“I am confident that the great vision of its founder Dr. Tuisem A Shishak will take the college to newer heights of glory under the new status. The college will now be in better position to introduce new relevant courses and disciplines”, said Datta.
Datta also complained over the rough entry road leading to the only autonomous college in the Northeast. He also encouraged the board to initiate the involvement of Scouts and Guides curriculum. He further assured to contribute Rs. 1 lakh towards the purchase of a Rs. 7 lakhs Yamaha Grand Piano for the College.
