Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): A talk on skill development aimed at exposing the students to career prospects in various fields was organised by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) at Bundrock auditorium on January 30.


Representatives from Emporium Skills Training Institute under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and Indian School of Hospitality delivered talk on mitigating the unemployment gap in the state of Nagaland and the scope of skill oriented courses, stated a press release issued by PCC Mass Communication. 


Vice Principal, Angel Sonari while welcoming the guests urged the students to pay attention to the talk and take advantage of their expertise. 


Anirban Mukherjee, Operation Manager, India & International, Emporium Skills Training Institute (ESTI), Ministry of Skill Development, Government of India interacting with the students said, “99% of the youths in Nagaland stay unemployed after graduation.” He said that one should have trained skills and build professional profile apart from academic profile to be in the competition. 


He stated that many youths in Nagaland sit for NPSC exams which is considered an ideal job without an alternate plan and spend four to six years sitting for the same exams, later living disappointed and unemployed.

 
While giving the examples of countries like USA, UK, Japan etc where skill development is considered as main subjects from class 5 onwards, he said it is high time to come out of the quagmire and focus on areas one can be good at instead. 


He also stated that the state has talented people but suffers high unemployment rate and that the gap is increasing day by day. The state is lagging behind because there are no factories, industries and not up to the mark in the field of entrepreneurship, he added.


He spoke about three industries that have future for the young talents. Under Aviation industry, Mukherjee mentioned about jobs opportunities in Airport Management, Ground Service Officers, Airline Reservations, security systems, customer service, operational departments and cabin crew. Speaking about scopes in Hospitality industry, he mentioned opportunists offered in resorts, villas, hotels etc. He further mentioned about the Cruise Line sector and its job opportunities. 


Rite-u Lohe, Front Office Trainer, Counselor, Indian School of Hospitality shared the opportunities available in the hospitality industry. She spoke about the Indian School of Hospitality based in Gurgaon and the Switzerland system of work that the institute functions on. The institute had recently signed a MoU with The People’s Channel, a Nagaland based resource development agency established in 2005. She further encouraged the youths to venture into the field of entrepreneurship and hospitality management stating that both the fields are diverse and multicultural with the ability to make students leaders of tomorrow in the biggest industries worldwide.
