Tetso players celebrate after winning the football final of the 3rd Patkai Trophy 2025 against St. Xavier College, Jalukie, on October 31. The team won the match 2–1 after a tight contest.
PATKAI, NOVEMBER 1 (MExN): The Patkai Trophy 2025 after an action-packed final day featuring thrilling title clashes across football, volleyball, and basketball concluded on October 31.
The first final of the day saw Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) and Dimapur Government College (DGC) lock horns in women’s volleyball. After a hard-fought contest, DBCK edged out DGC 3–1 to lift the trophy. DBCK’s Nilivi Achumi was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP).
In the men’s volleyball final, St. Joseph University (SJU) A prevailed 3–1 over their own B side in a dominant all-SJU affair. Vede Koza of SJU Team A was deservedly conferred the MVP title for his standout performance.

SJU also displayed a strong performance in Women’s Basketball with the university powering past Tetso College 31–23. It was a double whammy for Tetso as its men’s team was also defeated 56–40 by the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS) in the final. Nanglem Konyak of SJU and Kezevituo Angami of SAS (NU) were adjudged the Women’s and Men’s MVP respectively.
However, Tetso found their moment of redemption on the football pitch. In a tense and fiercely contested final, Tetso College Men’s Football Team clinched the ultimate prize with a 2–1 win over St. Xavier College, Jalukie.

Tetso’s Kirangdibe also won the ‘Golden Glove’, while the Golden Ball and Golden Boot in football respectively went to Icuilungbe (St. Xavier College) and Viketo (SJU Team B).
One of the most electrifying contests of the day came in the men’s Tug of War final where Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) outmuscled SJU.

Earlier, on the second day, badminton wrapped up with Patkai’s Iciheile Hieme winning the women’s singles title defeating college-mate Salew Eshone.
In the men’s singles, Bovi K. Chishi (Tetso) outplayed Nchatu Herie (SJU) to lift the crown, while in women’s doubles, Y. Theila Phom and Peheiguile Ilunglung (Tetso) defeated Salew Eshone and Zudao Newmai (PCC) for the title.
The men’s doubles turned into an all-Tetso showdown, with Bovi K. Chishi and Masenwangbo Pamai beating teammates Watiakum Longchar and David Shin.

The closing ceremony was graced by Lhousito Khro, Chairman of the Chümoukedima Town Council, and a Patkai alumnus and former faculty member, as the guest of honour. Khro lauded the scale of participation and the quality of competition, admitting he had initially assumed the event was an internal tournament.
A total of 23 institutions from Nagaland and one from Assam competed in the three-day event.
Highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship, he said winning matters, but without losers there are no winners, and those who fell short this year should return stronger next season.
The 3rd Patkai Trophy 2025, hosted by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), kicked off on October 29 under the theme “Celebrating Talents.” Tongpang Ozukum, MLA and Advisor to the Department of Water Resources, Government of Nagaland, was the inaugural guest.
