DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (MExN): Nagaland State Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader, Y Patton today met Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi and discussed the claims made by a gangster arrested in Lucknow who had said that he was contracted to assassinate a politician in Nagaland.
The Deputy CM was accompanied by BJP legislators and advisors Dr Longrineken Ao and Khehovi Yepthomi.
A press note from the Deputy CM’s media cell informed that the legislators appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene and ensure conduct of a “free, fair, thorough and expeditious investigation into the matter to unveil the names of the person who paid the contract money along with a Ford Endeavour car and the politician targeted.”
The Deputy Chief Minister Nagaland, who is also the Minister incharge for Home, while reiterating the gravity and seriousness of the case, had informed the Union Minister that the State Police is being kept on high alert and a team of Nagaland Police headed by an officer in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been detailed to co-ordinate with the Delhi Police for joint interrogation and investigation.
Rijiju reportedly assured that the matter will be taken up with the Commissioner of Delhi Police and that the MHA would “leave no stone unturned so as to unearth the criminal nexus and award befitting punishment to anyone found involved irrespective of their position.
The legislators from Nagaland also congratulated the Central BJP leadership for their “tireless efforts in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.”
NSF asks Nagaland govt to set up inquiry
The Naga Students Federation (NSF) today called upon the Government of Nagaland to thoroughly review the security situation and set up a special enquiry committee with regard to reports of an arrested gangster in Lucknow claiming that he had been hired to assassinate a politician from Nagaland. A press note from the NSF condemned such an 'assassination attempt' and asked that the state government act to apprehend the individuals or groups involved.
