Patkai, April 22 (MExN): A one-day lecture series on geosciences was organised by Department of Geology, Patkai Christian College on April 19. The resource persons were Dr G T Thong, Professor, Department of Geology, Nagaland University and Rita Thurr and D Vincent Whuorie, Senior Geologists of Geological Survey of India, Dimapur, a press release received here stated.
Speaking on ‘Landslide Susceptibility and Risk Assessment of Noklak Town, Nagaland,’ Dr GT Thong highlighted the issues of landslide faced in Noklak areas usually situated on top of the mountain.
Rita Thurr emphasized on heavy metal contamination studies, and heavy metal poisoning due to exposure to heavy metals like lead, mercury and arsenic. Heavy metals have been used by humans for thousands of years, although severe adverse health effects of heavy metals have been known for a long time, exposure to heavy metals continues, Thurr affirmed.
