PDA for Sports University in Nagaland

The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government has given assurance to pursue for establishment of Sports University in Nagaland. Stating this in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) of PDA released here on May 9, 2018, it also stated that a Regional Centre of Sporting Excellence will be established in the state.  

The CMP stated that Dr. T. Ao Football Academy as a centre for excellence will be promoted and Dr. T. Ao Sports Award will be restored. Sports scholarship scheme will be introduced adding that nutritional and travel allowance for sportspersons will be increased realistically.   CMP outlined to make special emphasize to develop sports and youth affairs with more modern infrastructure and appropriate administrative measures especially focusing on the districts including provision of artificial turf.  

Nagaland will be promoted as a hub of Motor sports with the re-introduction of the Hornbill International Motor Rally. A Nagaland Marathon/Cross Country Race will be introduced.  

Also assuring to introduce scheme for training of coaches and staff, it also stated that sports and game development programmes will be initiated at the grassroots level. Music as an industry will be pursued with new programmes centred on creativity, innovation and employment generation, it stated.  

Other areas includes, to identify and promote local sports talents and also promote indigenous sports, modernize existing sports academies, construct new multi-purpose sports complex in every district headquarter and modernize old existing sports infrastructure in every district headquarter and sports & games development programmes to be initiated at the grassroots level.
