DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 26 (MExN): Assisi Higher Secondary School, Dimapur conducted an induction programme for Peace Club and Eco Club. Ravi Chettri, Lieutenant Colonel, Assam Rifle, Transit Camp, Dimapur was the Chief Guest of the event. 

A short message was delivered by the Chief Guest, where he urged the students to be agents of peace and maintain healthy competition with each other. He further asked them to consider failures as a stepping stone to success and most importantly to respect and honor their teachers, who mold them into a perfect shape. 

Livino S Zhimo, Project Coordinator Peace Channel, who was the resource person of the day, gave brief description about Peace Channel and the importance of peace in school settings in order to promote peace building and conflict transformation through children. 

She emphasized on the main objectives of peace and peace building. Students were also motivated to understand the concept of peace to transfer the culture of violence into culture of peace. She told the students that peace was not just merely the absence of war but that it was a situation where individuals or group actively collaborate and co-exist in harmony and understanding despite odds. 

She said that bringing peace in society is a complex process. It is a long term process which involves prevalence of justice, mutual understanding of culture and the religion of others, humanity, tolerance and acceptance of differences. Peace can be installed in the young minds by educating the culture of working together, appreciate co-existence, develop non-violent conflict resolution skills, respect for human dignity, religious tolerance and understanding of the world, she stated.

She mentioned about Peace Channel an emerging youth peace movement which aims to transform society as peace lovers, peace makers and peace promoters and Peace Club is one of the sections where they work with the children.

Peace Club is a small group consisting of 15- 20 members who come together and practice speaking, sharing, and listening from the heart, through compassionate, heartfelt expression and empathetic, non-judgmental approach by following the seven steps of Peace Celebration. 

She also pointed out the 7 commissions under peace club which includes peace commission, sports and games commission, health and hygiene commission, environment commission, social welfare and humanitarian development commission, education commission, and finance commission. 

Later, vote of thanks was proposed by Merenaro, a student of 10th standard and the session was concluded with the School Anthem.
