Peace Cell Zunheboto unhappy at factional clash

Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): The Peace Monitoring Cell Zunheboto has rued that in spite of the tireless effort of Sumi NGOs to prevent clashes between the two factions of the NSCN and the subsequent concurrence given by the groups, clashes had taken place at Lochomi Village and at Sheyipu.

The Cell was of the opinion that headed by the PMC, the general public and NGOs had worked tirelessly to prevent any bloodshed between the two warring factions and towards the hue and cry made by the people, the factions had agreed in principle to abide by the conditions served to them by the NGOs and district administration. “However contrast to their positive response it is pained to see that factional clashes took place at Lochomi village and at Sheyipu village on the 30th May evening and 31st morning in which one cadre from NSCN (K), two cadres from NSCN (IM) were critically injured and one civilian was injured in the cross firing” Convener Vishiho Awomi and Secretary Aheto V Yepthomi lamented.

It reminded that it was only through the selfless effort by the NGOs, district administration and police personnel that the volatile situation was prevented from escalating further and the injured were immediately admitted to civil Hospital Zunheboto for necessary medial treatment.

The Peace Monitoring Cell also expressed ‘embarrassment’ that when the NGOs and district administration was working around the clock, the M/S (incharge) Civil Hospital, Dr Erenthung, had arrived to the hospital only after 10 am in spite of repeated calls, that too in a “tipsy mood.” This, the Cell stated, was irresponsible. “Such irresponsible and careless official in medical profession is intolerable. In this context the Peace Monitoring Cell strongly apprises the concern department and the State Government to seriously note for action against such an erring officer” it was demanded.

The Cell, meanwhile also expressed gratitude to all individuals and organizations who had generously contributed in various ways. The Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto and all Sumi Legislatures as well as medical personnel Dr Nitovi, Dr Akaho, nurses and the staffers of Civil Hospital were mentioned. The Cell also extended relief fund amounting to Rs 5000 each to the critically injured cadres and Rs 1000 and Rs 500 to the persons with minor injuries, besides medical and transportation expenses.
