Asserting that peace is a pre-requisite in Nagaland, Home Minister, G. Kaito Aye today asked the Deputy Commissioners to maintain law and order so as to facilitate development in a peaceful atmosphere.
Addressing the state review meeting on law and order problems with the DCs of the state, Kaito said, “Peace is key to development.”
The Home Minister urged the DCs to play a more pro-active role to ensure peace. He further called for the DCs to have more coordination meetings with law enforcing agencies and civil societies in order to create a peaceful environment. He urged the DCs to go out and interact with the people and pointed out that the Deputy Commissioner is the first person responsible for the welfare of the people. Taking serious note on border issues, the Home Minister pointed out that unwanted incidents with the neighboring states should be avoided.
Aye said that the DC is responsible for maintaining law and order, planning and development and is the foundation for government administration. He added that their feedback is essential for the Government to take further steps.
The home minister also appealed for the DCs to cooperate with the Government by executing the schemes and plans of the Government so that people can enjoy the fruit of development. He stated that with cooperation to the Government “we can achieve everything. Let us jointly take up the projects of development for the greater interest of the people.” The minister also urged the DCs to be “very courageous” and to sincerely carry out and implement the responsibilities assigned to them.
Nagaland Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Banuo Z. Jamir, who chaired the function expressed concern that some of the Government Departments are taking up developmental projects without consulting the district administration. She stated that this should be avoided and that the DC would have to be consulted before departments take up projects.
The review meeting is scheduled to go on till April 12.
