DIMAPUR, MAY 29 (MExN): The Peace Monitoring Cell, Zunheboto (PMCZ) has issued a rejoinder to a news report carried in the local dailies wherein NSCN (IM) Deputy Kilonser Kraibo Chawang had alleged that Brig Nikki, Commander NSCN (K) had been transported and given protection by the Assam Rifles. Terming this statement of Chawang as totally unfounded and baseless, the PMCZ in a statement issued by Convener Z. Vishiho Awomi and Secretary V. Aheto Yepthomi clarified that both the leader of the warring faction stationed at Zunheboto had been invited to share the platform of the peace rally organized to express resentment of the fratricidal killings. And that the PMCZ had also assured both the faction leaders for protection and transportation to facilitate them to participate in the peace rally on May 27.
“Accordingly, Brig Nikki and colleagues attended the rally being protected and transported by members of the PMCZ”, the statement clarified.
The PMCZ further informed that the NSCN (IM) leaders expressed their inability to attend the rally saying that they could not obtain permission from their higher ups as was “communicated to PMCZ by Maj. Hevuto Commander of Zunheboto town yet expressed his all out support for the success of the proposed rally”.
The PMCZ further clarified that the term local/non-local in sharing the platform did not arise in any manner. “And therefore, such divisive languages should not be used in any manner as a conscious and responsible leader in the larger interest of the Nagas”.
It was also clarified that the sole objective of organizing the peace rally at Zunheboto was to express resentment over the fratricidal killings amongst the factions and to bring about peaceful and congenial atmosphere and also to create understanding amongst the leaders of different factions, the PMCZ stated,.
