Dimapur, Feb 12 (MExN): The turf battle for Phek district is reportedly reaching dangerous proportions with a virtual showdown taking place in the heart of Phek town between the FGN-NSCN (K) combine force and the NSCN (IM). According to information received, intense gun battle continued for most part of the day today throwing normal life out of gear for the public. With their patience running out and with no sight of administration coming to their rescue, the public of Phek are reportedly preparing to physically chase out the armed cadres into the jungles.
It was reported that concerned citizens of Phek Town have been repeatedly making humble submission to the concerned authorities of the armed factions but with no positive response. Onlookers fear that if the State administration does not respond appropriately a mob like situation could develop leading to untoward incidents that could be hard for anybody to control.
With HSLC and HSSLC examinations in progress, students in particular have been badly affected with the continuing tense situation. People are questioning whether it is the students and their parents or the State government who will be answerable if candidates appearing the exams fail.
Meanwhile, as per latest information, rival cadres are locked in battle mode and refusing to move out of civilian areas.
