KOHIMA (MExN): Kohima city will have a new look in over a year’s time with barricaded footbridges at the main junctions of the city. This will help ease the misery of the pedestrians to cross the road which has become a big problem these days.

Nagaland is reported to have the highest number of vehicle in proportion to the population with 1 vehicle for every 11 persons most of which are at Kohima, Dimapur and other district headquarters. This shocking number of vehicles has made life very difficult for the pedestrians’ particular at the crossings. Therefore, with a view to ease the problem, the Town Planning Department, Govt. of Nagaland, has initiated the construction of footbridges which will connect all the sides of the road converging at the important junctions.

At Razhü Point, Kohima the work has already been initiated. However, according to Neilabeizo Tsürho, SDO, Town Planning, the work will take some time for completion as it has to coordinate with other sectors like the power department, P.H.E, telecommunication and so on who will have to relocate their pipes and cables out of the way so that it wont hamper with the work. The bridge at Razhü Point is estimated to cost around Rs. 85.00 lakhs.

He also informed that very soon work will start at TCP Gate and SP Point each estimated around Rs. 39.00 lakhs.

It can be mentioned that Dimapur has one such footbridge at the Church Road-Dhobinala junction built last year which is now happily used by pedestrians.
