Maligaon, April 5 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has extended and introduced special train services to manage increased passenger demand and improve connectivity across regions.
According to a press release, the services of weekly special train No. 06571/06572 (Yesvantpur Junction–Katihar–Yesvantpur Junction) have been extended for 15 additional trips in both directions. The extension is aimed at easing congestion and strengthening connectivity between southern and eastern parts of the country, benefiting passengers from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar, along with improved access for travellers from the Northeast.
Train No. 06571 (Yesvantpur Junction–Katihar) will run every Tuesday from April 7 to July 14, 2026, while Train No. 06572 (Katihar–Yesvantpur Junction) will operate every Friday from April 10 to July 17, 2026. The trains will continue to run with existing schedules, timings, composition and stoppages.
In addition, NFR will operate a special train service No. 08047/08048 (Santragachi–Naharlagun–Santragachi) for 12 trips. Train No. 08047 will depart from Santragachi every Friday at 18:00 hours from April 10 to June 26, 2026, reaching Naharlagun at 20:50 hours the following day. In the return direction, Train No. 08048 will depart from Naharlagun every Saturday at 23:55 hours from April 11 to June 27, 2026, arriving at Santragachi at 04:15 hours on Monday.
The train will halt at key stations including Bardhaman, Malda Town, Siliguri Junction, Kokrajhar, Rangiya and Rangapara North, among others. It will comprise AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier and sleeper class coaches.
NFR stated that the extension and operation of these special trains will provide additional travel options, ease congestion on busy routes and assist passengers travelling for purposes such as summer holidays, examinations and medical needs. Passengers have been advised to check detailed timings and stoppages on the IRCTC website and official social media platforms before undertaking their journey.
